Myocardial protection remains a cornerstone of successful cardiac surgery. While cardioplegia and cardiopulmonary bypass are routine clinical tools, our understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying ischemia–reperfusion injury continues to evolve. New insights into mitochondrial function, cellular signaling pathways, inflammation, and metabolic regulation are opening exciting opportunities for the development of more effective and individualized cardioprotective strategies.

In this webinar, PD Dr. Maja-Theresa Dieterlen will provide an overview of current basic science research in myocardial protection, highlighting the mechanisms of ischemia–reperfusion injury, established and emerging cardioplegic concepts, innovative additives and therapeutic targets, and the role of experimental models in translational research. The presentation will also address the challenges of translating promising preclinical findings into clinical practice and discuss future directions, including mitochondria-targeted therapies, personalized cardioplegia, and AI-supported optimization of myocardial protection strategies. Join us for an exciting scientific journey from bench to bedside and discover how advances in basic research may shape the future of cardiac surgery and perioperative myocardial protection.

We look forward to your participation!
