Each year, over 2000 cardiac and vascular procedures are performed at the university of Giessen. In 2013, the department of cardiac and vascular surgery in Giessen founded the Hessian Aortic Center (“Hessisches Aortenzentrum”) which is specialized in aorta diseases. One of the most common diseases of the aorta is the aortic aneurysm. Contemporary open thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm (TAAA) repair is characterized through remarkable early outcomes, in particular with elective repair.
Recent consensus practice guidelines recommend considering either cold crystalloid perfusion or blood perfusion for renal protection during TAAA repair. Johannes Kalder, MD will discuss the renal perfusion during TAAA open repair along with the surgical implications of this procedure. The purpose of this webinar is to assess the effectiveness in renal protection using organ protective perfusion solutions.
